Film's audiences vary widely as they are all different in who specifically is being targeted; having a target audience is important in the process of the making of the film as it is the filmmakers duty to create a film that will please this specific group. Therefore, if they fulfill this it will ensure the success and enjoyment of their film.
Primary Audience
This primary target is identified by demographics such as age, class, gender etc.
Secondary Audience
The secondary audience can both be a larger group than that of the primary audience or a very specific group with particular interests in film, therefore they're not defined by demographics. Furthermore, they can be defined by their specific taste in genre.
Producers/directors need to create their film in mind of their TA; creating content that will attract them thus ensuring a good response to the film and therefore a profit in income.
Audience's for horror:
Age:
- Usually between 15-25
- Young adults enjoy thrills
- Younger audiences are more drawn to graphic images and are not put off unlike older audiences
Gender:
- Stereotypically horror's are mainly aimed at males rather than females; this is due to the assumption men enjoy violence more than women.
